Camp Sukkot in the Lake District
Sukkot is a festival that celebrates shelter, community and time spent outdoors. In October those themes came together perfectly in the Lake District.
Camp Sukkot brought Bar and Bat Mitzvah students and their families together for a three-day camp overlooking Calgarth, close to the places where the Windermere Children once lived, played and swam.
The programme combined walking, learning and time around the campfire. Participants explored the landscape, heard stories of the children who recovered here after the war, and reflected on the importance of resilience and rebuilding.
The camp also included a 20 kilometre B’nei Mitzvah challenge walk, giving young participants the opportunity to test themselves physically while connecting with the history of the area.
For many families, it was their first time visiting these places. For the students, it was a powerful way to understand history not just through books, but through the landscape itself.
